It is the Earth Day time of year once again. That means we have the chance to encourage the likeminded people who gather at the many Earth Day Events to get with our favorite Sustainable Transportation Solution.
There is lots of information below that will help you to join in the fun and plan your activities. The activities are starting early this year and stretching into May. That gives us more choices and more opportunities to help make a difference.
We also have a new tool that will help people to get with the Sustainable Transportation solutions. That tool is designed specifically for this purpose. It is the new book Energy and EV Secrets. It starts with laying out the Energy Concerns in the ways that they have the most direct impact on everyone’s lives. There is a special program to encourage you to start using this tool in all your outreach efforts as you can discover below.
Our group has grown and now includes people all over the US and even around the world. For that reason we are starting to shift away from identifying ourselves as a club toward recognizing that we are part of the growing Sustainable Transport Network. This newsletter is one way for that network to communicate. Please feel free to send information toward that end.
P.S. The Sustainable Transport Network is conducting an EV charging survey for the Central Coast of California. Anyone who lives in the area or who VISITS the Central Coast is encouraged to submit your vote and priorities. We can actually use it in the next phase of planning and charger installations.

California Clean Vehicle Rebate (CVRP)
Funds Running Short
The rebates that come from California Air resources may not last for much longer this Fiscal Year (2013-2014). This was brought up at a recent presentation given by California Air Resources Board staff to the Energy Commissions Alternative Fuel Funding workshop in Irvine last month.
This is what funds the check that is sent out by the state to help you buy an EV. They send $2,500 for an all electric vehicle like the Chevy Spark and $1,500 for the Plug in Hybrids like the Volt.
The projection was that the funds may expire in April pending new allocations. The fund was increased this time last year so that may happen again. The website that handles this program is run by the Energycenter.org. It reports the remaining funds are $5,344,631.
There is additional money coming in the budget for next year so this may only be temporary. If you are thinking of buying an EV it might be smart to do it sooner rather than later.
